Our students love to read and write! At Fieldstone, all students learn to appreciate great literature, connect stories to larger social and historical contexts, and write compelling personal narratives and essays.
We use the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) Framework to structure our Primary English classes, and then transition to Cambridge English from Grade Four onwards. Students at Fieldstone move confidently from learning to read to reading to learn. They also discover the joy of finding their voices as writers.
Starting in Kindergarten, students gain the ability to recognize an extensive range of sight words, and they then begin to combine these into sentences and paragraphs. Our Kindergarten students recently worked together to create their very own shared story (pictured above). Their tale involved dinosaurs, unicorns, and pizza! Understanding narrative structure provides a foundation in writing for our youngest students, who can look forward to creating longer and more complex stories as their academic journeys continue.
